Walk (Aerobic Exercise)
We now live in a world where 60% of the population of the United States is considered overwieght or obese. This has helped to create the health care crisis that the United States is now facing.
Back in the 1970's it was learned that walking outside at a slow steady pace for one hour a day would help to reser the body's weight set point, thereby helping to make overweight people become more lean and thin.
Of all of the recommendations I will make for you this year, this will be one of the hardest to fulfill on a daily basis, yet I promise you that over the long haul, this one recommendation will have the most profound effect.
For myself, a life-time ago, the average person walked 5 miles per day. Today the average person now walks less than a mile a day. It is now estimated that for the average overweight person to change the shape of their body, one must walk, jog or run 30 - 35 miles per week. Low and behold, any surprise about 5 miles per day.
Many of you know I have been STREAKING for years. (No, not running outside naked, but going up to 642 days in a row without missing a run with my average being 4-5 miles per run.) This is not to impress you but to iimpress upon you that daily exercise is definitely possible if it is a priority.
Walking should be done outside is possible, however a treadmill can be used. Walk for one hour NON-STOP. Keep the pace steady and do not overexert yourself. Slow, rhythmic movement is the key. You should be able to maintain a conversation while walking. Getting your heart rate up to a level that is aerobic is the ideal during your walk. This is what will trigger the fat burning of the body.
Remember to be patient, if you have not been exercising regularly and are over 40 years old, it can take up to a year to stimulate this fat burning system. Ideally, this should be done every day. Consistency and regulatriy is key. If this is not acheivable, any amount of walking will still have a dramatic effect on resetting your body's set point and help to make you lean.
